Abercrombie Caves
Abercrombie Caves are an underground wonder formed millions of years ago. These caves were created when water flowed through the limestone rock, slowly dissolving it and forming incredible tunnels and chambers.
One of the coolest parts of Abercrombie Caves is the Archway, which is the largest natural limestone bridge in the Southern Hemisphere. The caves also have sparkling crystal formations including stunning stalactites (hanging from the ceiling) and stalagmites (growing from the ground).and even areas with fossils from ancient sea creatures.
Did you know?
The limestone of Abercrombie Caves was formed over 430 million years ago when the area was covered by an ancient sea.
The Archway is so big that you could fit a double-decker bus through it.
Stalactites and stalagmites grow super slowly—only about 1 centimeter every 100 years!
Fossils of coral and shells found in the caves are of the marine organisms that lived in the shallow seas of the Silurian, over 400 million years ago.
