Bermagui to Canberra, April 2019.
A whirlwind week for Society members Dan, Nell, Bella, Archie and Hamy in the autumn of 2019. We made our way southwards to spend several days based at Muz’s cabin at Wallaga Lake. In addition to the enjoyable company, we struck out on several expeditions including to the far end of Shell Beach (in search of treasure) and, most memorably, from Camel Rock to Horsehead Rock which we found entirely exposed due to an unusually low tide allowing for fine exploration followed by a memorable rock scramble to reach the headland and the track back to Wallaga Lake. We also enjoyed a fishing adventure up the river, and visited the Montreal Gold Fields with its numerous old mine shafts and very many mosquitos!
Leaving Bermagui we drove via Browns Mountain and Cooma to Canberra for a couple of further days exploring, with the highlights being Questacon - a paradise for all science lovers - and eating roughly our own body weights in Chinese food of an evening.
The track above Horsehead Rock on the Bermagui coastline.
The amazing low tide at Horsehead Rock, with Explorer Archie looking appropriately impressed.
Continuing north along the coast beyond the Horsehead Rock.
An excellent and exciting rock scramble required to get off the beach and to reach the end of the headland and the track back to Wallaga Lake.
On Shell Beach (Moorhead Beach to noobs). Plenty of rock pools and possibilities of treasure.
The far northern end of the beach.
Gone fishing! Archie baiting his hook under Muz’s supervision as we proceeded down river. Alas, not too many were biting on the day.
The science paradise of Questacon in Canberra. Archie and Hamy fascinated by the robotics display.
